Public Sector

Background

We have supported many Public Sector bodies with their Climate Change Action Plans and targets. We have worked with An Garda Siochana (Irish Police Service) for many years across their building and transport operations.

An Garda Síochána, Ireland’s national police service, is committed to supporting state climate goals under the Public Sector Climate Action Mandate. It must reduce emissions, improve energy efficiency, and adopt sustainable practices across its operations.

Key actions include transitioning to low- and zero-emission vehicles, retrofitting older stations, and integrating renewable energy. The organisation is working toward a 51% emissions reduction by 2030, in line with the Climate Action Plan 2024, and is adopting green procurement and efficient technologies in buildings and new facilities.

In addition to internal changes, the Gardaí support climate-related enforcement and help manage public safety during extreme weather events—highlighting their growing role in Ireland’s broader climate resilience strategy

Case Study

The Problem

An Garda Síochána faces several key challenges in meeting its climate goals. A major obstacle is the ageing and energy-inefficient building stock, with many Garda stations requiring significant retrofitting to meet energy standards.

Transitioning the national vehicle fleet to electric or low-emission alternatives is complex due to operational demands, limited charging infrastructure, and vehicle availability. Budget constraints and competing priorities across the organisation further complicate large-scale upgrades.

Coordinating climate action across a dispersed network of stations and personnel presents logistical and administrative difficulties. Additionally, ensuring compliance with evolving public sector climate mandates requires dedicated resources, skills, and data management capabilities.

Our Solutions

The team at Entegral Energy have provided a full Energy Management Support Service to AGS across all aspects of the Energy Transition pathway:

Developed a Dedicated Energy Management System and Climate Action Roadmap: which provided the structure and processes for the organization to achieve its ambitions in consistent and effective manner.

Support the delivery of key project across transport and buildings operations - delivering a transport division which is global leader in transitioning to Electric Vehicles and ongoing energy efficiency projects across the building portfolio buildings

AGS has recieved global recognition for their achievements in this area.
